Default The storm has not arrived yet.

The wave of Cobia inshore has not hit the Broad River yet. With the cold and nasty winter the big run of Cobia is running late. The good news is we still have plenty of time. I am hoping with the numbers of fish spotted offshore on the artificial reefs we are going to have a good migration into the river. A few Cobia were caught this week in the River but you have to be the one with the silver spoon in your mouth to get one. On the calm morning days if you had the persistence, fish could be spotted cruising the surface.

If you don't see them popping the surface put a chum bag down on the bottom and fish a sabiki rig near the bag. PS. that chum bag on the bottom might help draw a bite.

Default cobia

We just do not have them here in the northern part of SC like you do down there.

Any update on Cobia in Broad River?
Also, at the mouth of Port Royal Sound is a spot on the chart labeled "fishing rip". What can you tell me about the meaning of that and is it a good place to fish in general. I've noticed a number of boats anchored there in the past in the summer but don't know what they might have been catching.

Still no big bite of Cobia in the Broad. We did catch a short Cobia above the bridge today. Spanish are as thick as thieves.
That fishing rip area can hold Kings, Spanish and Cobia. Depends on how much bait in the area. Chum and fish the surface or the Sharks will drive you crazy.

Thanks much for the advice. When fishing that rip on the surface would I be better off trolling or anchoring?

If you see Spanish you can troll small Clark Spoons. If you want the big stuff, anchor and chum like crazy and fish live menhaden or Threadfin under Cajun Thunder Corks or balloons.
